Exfoliate the night before. A somewhat gritty body scrub will help rid dead cells around skin pores and hair follicle, providing an easier waxing service for both you and your waxer.
Don’t apply astringent or toner. These tighten the pores and can make a firmer hold on the hair follicle.
Taking Advil or Ibuprofen before any wax service can help minimize discomfort.
Some contraindications to waxing include: microdermabrasion, chemical peels, sunburn, Retin A, Accutane, and other vitamin A skincare products. These products can cause your skin to tear and will result in hyper pigmentation or scarring. See who cannot be waxed section below.
You will need a minimum of ¼ inch for fine hair and 1/2 inch for coarse hair. If it’s too short we will have to reschedule your appointment.
We won’t get every single hair on your first visit. Your hair grows in different cycles, it will take about 3 visits to be smooth and completely hair free. If you have been shaving for many years it may take a few more visits, But it is definitely worth the wait.
At least for 24 hours after waxing protect your skin from the direct sunlight exposure. Wear a high SPF or sun blocker on the area waxed if it will be expose to sunlight.
All intake forms and waivers must be filled out prior to your appointment. You will receive these via email. Failure to complete necessary forms will result in canceled appointments and possibly cancelation fee's.
For the first 24-hours NO: tanning (beds or natural), spray tan, hot tubs/saunas, salt water, exercising, sexual activity, tight fitting clothes, fragrances or lotions.
For irritation apply hydrocortisone as needed.
Wait to exfoliate: normal skin (after 3-5 days), sensitive/highly sensitive skin (after 5-7 days) Recommended exfoliants: Personal fav the Crystal Peel bar, products containing salicylic acid or lactic acid, products made specifically to treat or prevent ingrown hair, such as PFB, Korean exfoliating cloth, or dry brush. Removing dead skin cells from the surface, allows removal of hair to be less painful, and more efficient. . All available for purchase in our retail area.
Prior to your service, let your waxer know if you have any skin condition, currently
being treated for or with any of the following:
Acne medications including, but not limited to:
If you use any of the Retin A products, refraining from using it for a full week beforehand usually makes it a safe solution, however we strongly recommend asking your dermatologist.
Please inform your waxer if you are using any of these products:
Waxing cannot be performed if you have had laser skin resurfacing or if you have had a physician administered peel within the past year.
Avoid over exfoliating before waxing
If you have been tanning within the 48 hours of your appointment, or have any sunburn, wax cannot be performed
Varicose Veins: Doctors consent will be needed due to the vein being so close to the surface of the skin. Slight possibility the vein could rupture and cause bleeding.
Cold Sores (herpes simplex) A highly contagious blister normally found around lips of mouth. Usually clears up in around 2 weeks
Diabetes: The skin is slow to heal and may have poor circulation along with blood sugar levels may need monitoring.
Epilepsy: As there is risk of fitting
Haemophile Operations/Recent scar tissue– You would need to wait 6 months until you have waxing over scar tissue. This is so the natural healing process takes place as waxing could interfere with the healing process and might be more painful.
Any contagious skin conditions due to cross infection.
Brow microblading– wait at least 2 months
Eczema or Psoriasis: Cracked or open skin is open to infection and should be completely healed before any wax treatment. History of Cold Sores or Fever Blisters: Waxing can cause a flare-up. Severe Varicose Leg Veins: These are known to make waxing more prone to “skin lifting”.
Remember to sign your online waiver prior to your waxing appointment.
